Cherokee County Warrant Searches
The paper you hold points the way. A name search by itself can miss a citation filed in a city court or one of the JP precincts serving Cherokee County. If you have a case number, use it. Then call the office that issued the warrant, since the county's official sheriff page posts only a phone and a records email, with no public countywide warrant lookup. Each channel answers its own part. Ask the clerk whether the warrant is active, withdrawn, recalled, or served, and who must update the record.
- Read the citation for the city, court, or JP precinct.
- Call that court with the case number, name, and date of birth.
- For sheriff-held county process, call 903-683-2271. Send a written sheriff request to records@cocherokee.org; fax copies should be marked Attn: Records at 903-683-2813.
- Use the Jacksonville portal for a city citation or Rusk's official list as a city-only starting point.
- Check Texas FTA/FTP only for a reported compliance hold, then confirm with the court.
An empty Cherokee County search result is not a court's confirmation that no warrant exists.
Cherokee County Search Starts at Issuing Court
Let the court paper tell you where to start. District and county cases run through their own court and clerk channels, while traffic and Class C matters go to one of four JP precincts or a municipal court. The sheriff may hold a service or custody record. Only the issuing court controls case status. Cherokee County's official Justice of the Peace directory lists each precinct and its traffic forms. When the number is unknown, give the clerk the citation date and ask which case record matches.
What a Warrant Search Asks For
Each screen asks for different details. Jacksonville's official portal offers several search modes and marks none of its fields as required. Use the one that fits your paper for a Cherokee County citation, and enter sensitive identifiers only for your own.
| Field | Type | Portal note |
|---|---|---|
| Citation number | Text | Paired with date of birth. |
| Date of birth | Date/text | MM/DD/YYYY appears as the format. |
| Driver license | Text plus state | Search mode also asks for DOB. |
| Social Security number | Text plus DOB | Shown as an optional search mode; handle with care. |
| Vehicle plate | Text plus state | Vehicle search route. |
| First and last name | Text plus DOB | Check the result with the clerk. |
| Business name | Text | Separate portal mode. |
The portal has a Search button and sign-in controls. It handles citation accounts, not a countywide Cherokee County warrant roster.
Jacksonville Warrant Search Fields
Tyler Municipal Online Services lets a reader search by citation number, driver's license, Social Security number, vehicle plate, last name, or business name. The page posts no sample result, status filter, bond field, or update schedule. Its office notice lists weekday hours. Those are office hours, not a warrant counter's. For Cherokee County readers, the screen serves Jacksonville citation accounts only. Open the Jacksonville citation search for the current field labels.

Found the citation? Call Jacksonville Municipal Court at 903-586-7111 to ask whether a warrant is active and what action clears it in Cherokee County.
Cherokee County Warrant Search Results
A record may carry a warrant or capias number, cause or citation number, issue date, issuing court, reason, offense, bond terms, status, and service agency. Cherokee County publishes no sample entry or number format. The fields describe what a record may hold. No office promises to show them all.
| Number | No county format was located. Use the citation or cause number printed by the court. |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | The court that authorized or controls the case. |
| Reason | Charge, missed appearance, unpaid judgment, or another court event. |
| Bond | May show a type or amount. Cherokee County publishes no countywide bond schedule. |
| Status | Active, served, recalled, withdrawn, or cleared may appear in different systems. |
Status updates can lag. After a payment or a court order, ask the issuing court when it sent its update, since Cherokee County records change at the court's pace.
Rusk Warrant List Date Conflict
Rusk Police links a Current Warrants List, and the page itself reads “Page last updated: 06/02/2022,” while a linked December 2024 court notice says the list is updated weekly. That conflict matters. Treat the list as a city lead, not proof of countywide status in Cherokee County. Rusk Municipal Court, at 903-683-2213, can confirm the case. The clerk can also explain how a warrant there gets withdrawn, and the official Rusk Current Warrants List is the source, not a Cherokee sheriff list. Do not copy or repost entries.
Cherokee County Warrants: Who Holds What
A county felony file, an unpaid JP citation, and a Jacksonville municipal case do not share one record desk. The court named in the file picks the office. Cherokee County's District Clerk handles district-court filings. Each JP or municipal clerk keeps its own separate case record.
| Record | First office | Contact route |
|---|---|---|
| District felony case | District Clerk | Rusk courthouse, 903-683-6908 |
| County Court at Law | Criminal coordinator / court | 903-683-6497 |
| JP traffic | Correct JP precinct | Use the citation's precinct. |
| City citation | Municipal Court | Use the city named on the paper. |
| County-held service record | Sheriff records | Email or fax an existing-record request. |
The sheriff's page does not identify a separate warrant line.
Cherokee County Restricted Warrant Records
Texas public-information law covers what the government already keeps. It carves out exceptions, though: active-investigation material may be withheld in some cases, and juvenile records in Cherokee County carry distinct protections. A search-warrant affidavit follows rules of its own, unlike an arrest-warrant inquiry.
Access rules:
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 covers public requests and statutory exceptions.
Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 18 covers search-warrant affidavits and sealing.
Family Code Chapter 58 limits public access to juvenile records.
Ask which rule allows a withholding. A Cherokee County requester may seek existing records but cannot make the sheriff assemble a new database.
Cherokee County Sheriff Records Request
The Cherokee County sheriff publishes no warrant-request form. A short written request works instead. Name the record you want, the subject's full name, a date of birth if records need sorting apart, and the cause or citation number with the issuing court if you know it. Those details are a requester's own wording, not official required fields. Email a request to records@cocherokee.org. For fax delivery, use 903-683-2813 and mark it Attn: Records. Ask before attaching ID. The county's public page states no identification rule. Request a copy estimate too, and ask which existing document answers the question. Chapter 552 does not make the sheriff create a countywide active-warrant list, so if the clerk holds the signed court process, contact that issuing court in Cherokee County as well.
Cherokee County Warrant and OmniBase Limits
Texas DPS points drivers with failure-to-appear or failure-to-pay problems toward OmniBase at 800-686-0570, the Texas Failure to Appear/Failure to Pay program. A search there may surface a reported compliance hold. It has limits. OmniBase will not confirm every local warrant in Cherokee County, quote the full bond, or stand in for the issuing court. DPS license clerks cannot give you warrant status either. Ask the court that flagged you about a reported FTA. A license renewal flag is not a warrant database. The DPS's FTA/FTP FAQ lays out the state route, while Wells Municipal Court says separately that it joins DPS FTA Omni and the Non-Resident Violator Compact. For the wider local sequence, see the active-warrant search channels and confirm any result with the Cherokee County court.
